The tetralemma as a perspective tool

The tetralemma, developed by Matthias Varga von Kibéd and Insa Sparrer, expands on classic dilemma logic. It shows ways to break out of deadlocked “either/or” positions and discover new options for action.

​The five steps at a glance:

  1. One thing

  2. The other thing

  3. Both – creative connection or compromise

  4. Neither – change of perspective and change of context

  5. None of the above – and not even that – breaking patterns to open up new perspectives

The tetralemma helps managers and teams to reflect on complex decisions, combine different perspectives, and develop sustainable solutions. It helps to remove mental blocks, clarify visions, and systematically develop team potential.
